Lorna berries!

You know those little fruits that look like golden tomatoes wrapped in leaves that they sometimes put on the side of your plate at fancy restaurants?

Cape Gooseberries

Cape Gooseberries

I took one home and planted some of the seeds. Mine didn’t go anywhere but my mother in law took some of the seedlings and planted them in her garden:img_0402

They’re very late to fruit as it’s early October already but there’s I’m chuffed to see them get this far. I think they’re called Cape Gooseberries but they have several regional names. We called them Lorna Berries because it was our family friend Lorna who took JJ and I out to lunch where I nicked a couple of choice berries from their plates and smuggled them home in a napkin.
